Leonidas Kavakos, a renowned Greek violinist, embarked on his musical journey at the Athens Conservatory and the Hellenic Conservatory. He further honed his skills under the tutelage of Joseph Gingold at Indiana University.

Competition Triumphs

In 1985, at the tender age of 18, Kavakos emerged as the youngest victor of the Sibelius International Violin Competition in Helsinki. This momentous triumph was followed by first-place accolades at the Naumburg Competition (1988) and the Paganini Competition (1988).

Expansive Repertoire

Kavakos's vast repertoire encompasses a broad spectrum of works, including the Sibelius Violin Concerto, which holds a special place in his heart since his aforementioned triumph. His interpretations also encompass the artistry of Schubert, Paganini, Tchaikovsky, Wieniawski, Debussy, and Ysaÿe, among many others.

Collaborations

Throughout his illustrious career, Kavakos has performed alongside esteemed orchestras and conductors worldwide. He has graced the stage in ensembles with renowned artists such as András Schiff, Natalia Gutman, Emanuel Ax, and Evgeny Kissin.

Conductorial Ascent

In recent years, Kavakos has expanded his musical horizons to include conducting. Since 2007, he has held the baton as artistic director of the Camerata Salzburg Chamber Orchestra, succeeding Sir Roger Norrington in the role.
