His talent was formally recognized in 1949 when he emerged victorious at the prestigious Marguerite Long and Jacques Thibaud International Competition in Paris, marking the commencement of his remarkable international career.
French Influence and Citizenship
In 1969, Ciccolini made France his primary residence, obtaining French citizenship two years later. His appointment as a professor at the Paris Conservatory from 1970 to 1983 further cemented his ties to the country.

Ciccolini's reputation as a skilled interpreter of Franz Liszt's works is well-founded. His teachers in Italy had themselves been Liszt's students, instilling in him an intimate understanding of the composer's music.
