Early Life and Education
Birth and FamilyJuris Lejaskalns was born on April 17, 1938, in Riga, Latvia, to a family of builders.
School and Drama Studio
He completed his secondary education at the 6th Riga Secondary School in 1956, while simultaneously attending the drama studio at the "Oktobris" Construction Workers' Culture House.
Acting Career
Debut and Diploma RoleLejaskalns received formal acting training at the third studio of the Dailes Theatre in 1962. His diploma performance was the role of Sutki in the play "In Flames" by Latvian literary classic Rudolfs Blaumanis.
Dailes Theatre
He became a member of the Dailes Theatre from 1962 to 1992, where he honed his craft and established himself as a renowned actor.
Freelance Work
From 1992 onwards, Lejaskalns pursued work as a freelance artist, participating in productions at various theaters and recording radio and television programs.
Film Career
Comedy DuoLejaskalns gained prominence in cinema through his comical partnership with fellow actor Egons Maisaks. They played the roles of hapless crooks in films such as "The Hours of Captain Enrico" and "A Gift for a Lonely Woman," directed by Janis Streichs and Eriks Lacis, respectively.
Recognition and Legacy
Awards and HonorsJuris Lejaskalns was recognized for his talent and contributions to the performing arts. In 1988, he received the title of Merited Artist of the Latvian SSR. He was also a member of the Latvian Union of Theatre Professionals (2007).
