Within a few years, Borodulin's work became synonymous with Soviet sports photography. His iconic image of the 1956 Moscow Sports Parade was selected by President Bill Clinton to adorn the walls of the White House.
From Soviet Icon to Israeli Success
After emigrating to Israel, Borodulin's photographs became highly sought-after at international auctions, including Sotheby's, Christie's, and Swann. In 2018, he celebrated his 80th birthday with a retrospective exhibition at the Moscow House of Photography.
The Notorious "Ass-Shot"
Among Borodulin's most famous works is the "Ass-Shot," originally titled "From the Tower." This photograph, taken in 1960, inadvertently captured a Soviet athlete in mid-dive from a height that revealed her derriere. The image sparked controversy and was labelled "flying ass" by Soviet official Mikhail Suslov.
Emigration and Legacy
The "Ass-Shot" incident led to Borodulin's emigration to Israel. He brought his iconic photograph with him, which he later sold at Sotheby's for a record-breaking price, exceeding its original value several times over.
