Early Life and Education

Leyla Aliyeva was born in Moscow to Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, and Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Vice President of Azerbaijan. Her grandfather, Heydar Aliyev, was also the former President of the country. Leyla received her primary and secondary education at School No. 160 in Baku before continuing her studies in Switzerland and the United Kingdom with her younger sister, Arzu. In 2000, she graduated from high school and enrolled at the European School of Business (ESB). From 2006 to 2008, Leyla pursued a Master's degree at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). She served as Chairman of the Azerbaijani Club at MGIMO until 2010.

Marriage and Family

On April 30, 2006, Leyla married Emin Agalarov, the Vice President of the Crocus Group and a musician. After their wedding, the couple relocated to Moscow, where Leyla became involved in humanitarian and social work. They had three children together: Ali (born December 1, 2008), Mikail (born December 1, 2008), and Amina (born April 9, 2014). However, the couple officially divorced on May 30, 2015.

Public and Diplomatic Career

In 2007, Leyla Aliyeva became the head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Moscow. She also launched the glossy magazine "Baku," aimed at promoting Azerbaijani culture and history. In 2008, she initiated the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign to raise awareness about the Khojaly massacre. From 2008 to 2015, she served as the main coordinator of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Youth Forum. In 2009, Leyla was appointed as the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Youth Organization of Russia (AMoR). In 2011, she became the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and launched the English-language version of the magazine "Baku" in London.

Environmental Advocacy

Leyla Aliyeva is the founder and chairperson of IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and implementing educational programs. IDEA operates animal shelters, runs educational projects, and collaborates with international environmental organizations.

Artistic Pursuits

Leyla Aliyeva is also a writer, filmmaker, and poet. Her poem "Elegy," dedicated to her grandfather Heydar Aliyev, has been included in Azerbaijani literature textbooks for fifth-grade students. In 2016, a collection of her poems, "Leaf," was published in Belarusian, followed by the publication of "The World Dissolves Like a Dream" in English in 2018.
