Early Life and TrainingLeyla Vezirova was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. Her passion for dance led her to join the Baku Choreographic School in 1943, where she studied under the renowned педагоgue Hamer Almaszade. To further her skills, she enrolled in the Moscow Choreographic School in 1945-46.
Career at the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theater
In 1943, Vezirova joined the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theater named after Akhundova, where she quickly became a leading ballerina. Her remarkable performances in iconic roles such as Odette in "Swan Lake," Giselle in "Giselle," and the Sleeping Beauty in "The Sleeping Beauty" captivated audiences.
Teaching and Artistic Direction
Beyond her stage appearances, Vezirova dedicated herself to nurturing the next generation of dancers. In 1953, she began teaching at the Baku Choreographic School. In 1972, she became a répétiteur at the theater. From 1976 to 1982, she led the Azerbaijan Dance Ensemble.

Vezirova's repertoire included a diverse range of characters, including Ayša in Karaev's "Seven Beauties" and Shirin in Arif Melikov's "Legend of Love." Her talent extended beyond the stage, as she also appeared in several films.
