Early Life and Career Beginnings

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Hemsworth is the youngest of three sons of Craig and Leonie Hemsworth. Inspired by his older brothers, Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth, he began seriously considering acting as a career in high school. Hemsworth secured an agent in high school and attended his first audition at age 16.

He landed his first acting roles in 2007, appearing in episodes of the television series 'Home and Away' and 'McLeod's Daughters.' On July 8, 2007, Hemsworth secured a role in the soap opera 'Neighbours,' a series that previously featured his brother Luke. Hemsworth played Josh Taylor, an athlete who developed paraplegia, a form of lower body paralysis, in the series from 2007 to 2008.

Breakthrough Role and Disappointments

In 2008, Hemsworth joined the cast of the children's television show 'The Elephant Princess,' portraying Markus, the lead guitarist in the main character's band. He later landed roles in the British film 'Triangle' and the television series 'Satisfaction.' In 2009, Hemsworth secured a cameo in the film 'Knowing' alongside Nicolas Cage.

Hemsworth was cast as an antagonist opposite Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming action film 'The Expendables' in 2009. However, his character was subsequently written out of the script. Undeterred, Hemsworth was contacted by director Kenneth Branagh a few hours after his abrupt departure from 'The Expendables.' After negotiations, Hemsworth was offered the lead role in the planned 2011 adaptation of the popular comic book 'Thor.'

Yet again, Hemsworth was replaced for the role of Thor, with his older brother Chris taking his place. In the same week, it was announced that Hemsworth had been cast as Will Blakelee in the Disney romance drama 'The Last Song.' He costarred with popular singer-actress Miley Cyrus, with whom he had previously collaborated on her music video for 'When I Look at You' in August 2009. The pair had begun dating in May.

Continued Success and Personal Life

In March 2010, 'Details' magazine named Hemsworth one of the "10 Most Likely to Become Hollywood's Next Generation of Leading Men." Rumors of his involvement in Chuck Russell's action film 'Arabian Nights' surfaced that same month, and Hemsworth was later confirmed for the lead role. He also starred in the 2009 film 'Northern Lights,' which originally featured Taylor Lautner, known for his role as Jacob the werewolf in the 'Twilight' series.

In March 2009, Hemsworth relocated to the United States to focus on his acting career. He returned to Australia that summer to address his relationship with his girlfriend, Laura Griffin, whom he had met in high school. Hemsworth eventually decided to end their relationship and pursued a romance with Miley Cyrus.
