Early Life and Parisian SuccessLida Goulesco was born in 1917 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Her father, Jean Goulesco, was a renowned Romanian violinist who was a favorite of the Russian imperial court. After the revolution, the Goulesco family emigrated to Constantinople and later to Paris. Jean began performing in restaurants and cabarets, where he shared the stage with legendary singers Valya Dimitrievitch and Volodia Poliakov. Amid this vibrant atmosphere, Lida's musical and dance talents blossomed.
At the young age of 17, Lida's exceptional voice captivated the owner of a Parisian cabaret. Her public performances brought her immediate acclaim, and she quickly rose to fame. Goulesco toured extensively, performing in New York, London, Rome, and many other cities.
Acquisition and Management of Parisian Cabarets
In 1955, Lida Goulesco purchased the cabaret "Palata," where she performed alongside singer Dmitri Usov. She later sold "Palata" and acquired "Tokay," a venue where she collaborated with the renowned Hungarian singer Joschka Nemth.
Final Performance and Legacy
Lida Goulesco's final concert was a memorable event held in London at a reception hosted by a Turkish princess. After a long and courageous battle with illness, she passed away in Paris on June 5, 1977. Lida Goulesco left behind a lasting legacy as one of the most beloved interpreters of Russian and Gypsy music.
