Liina Kersna: Estonian Politician and Former Broadcaster

Liina Kersna is an Estonian politician and former radio broadcaster who currently serves as the Minister of Education and Research of Estonia since January 26, 2021.

Early Life and Education

Born on April 3, 1980, in Tallinn, Estonia, Kersna earned her Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Public Relations from the University of Tartu in 2005. She went on to complete her Master's degree in Administrative Governance from the same university in 2018.

Broadcasting Career

From 1998 to 2002, Kersna worked as a host and editor at Estonian Radio. She then served as Head of Public Relations for the Estonian Student's Corporations Union from 2002 to 2004.

Government Service

Kersna held various roles within the Estonian government, including:

- 2004-2007:Chief Specialist, Public Relations Department, Ministry of Agriculture

- 2007-2013:Media Advisor, Government Communication Bureau

- 2013-2015:Advisor to the Prime Minister and Head of the Prime Minister's Bureau

Political Career

In 2015, Kersna joined the Reform Party of Estonia. She was elected to the Riigikogu (Parliament) in the 2015 parliamentary elections and re-elected in 2019.

Minister of Education and Research

On January 26, 2021, Kersna was appointed Minister of Education and Research in the government led by Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.

Personal Life

Kersna is married to journalist and television host Vahur Kersna and has one son.
