Early Life and CareerFamous bullfighter from Spain, Luis Miguel Gonzalez Lucas, known as Luis Miguel Dominguin, achieved great success during the 1940s and 1950s for his participation in bullfights in Spain, Portugal, Colombia, and other countries. He made his debut in the arena at the age of 11. Dominguin was born on November 9, 1926, in Madrid, Spain. His father was the legendary bullfighter Domingo Dominguin, so Luis took his father's surname to quickly gain popularity. Among his celebrity friends was the Spanish artist and sculptor Pablo Picasso.
Love Affairs and Personal Life
Dominguin had passionate love affairs with American actress Ava Gardner and fashion model China Machado. In 1954, he married actress Lucia Bose, who gave birth to their son Miguel Bose, a future Grammy-winning singer. In 1959, Dominguin and Antonio Ordonez, the face of Spanish bullfighting, had a competition between themselves, which was covered in American writer Ernest Hemingway's book "The Dangerous Summer." Ordonez emerged as the winner of the rivalry.
Later Career and Death
In 1971, at the age of 44, Dominguin returned to the arena, but disappeared from it the same year. The following year, he appeared in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, in a special costume created for him by Picasso. He killed two bulls and gained some attention but couldn't overshadow the younger bullfighters. However, actress Deborah Kerr, who was among the spectators, insisted that Dominguin was still the best bullfighter. In 1973, Dominguin had his final fight in Barcelona. He passed away on May 8, 1996, at the age of 69 and was buried in a cemetery near Soto Grande.
