Biography of Lior
Early Life and Career BeginningsLior was born in 1977 in Rishon LeZion, Israel. At the age of 10, he moved to Australia with his family. His mother is of Polish Jewish descent, while his father is from Iraq. Lior's musical career began in 2004, and he has since released three studio albums and one live album.
Breakthrough with 'Autumn Flow'
In early 2005, Lior independently released his debut album, 'Autumn Flow', which became a gold-certified record according to the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). The album received three nominations at the ARIA Music Awards in 2005, including 'Breakthrough Artist', 'Best Male Artist', and 'Best Independent Release'. It was also nominated for the 'J Award' for Album of the Year by Triple J radio station. 'Autumn Flow' is considered one of the most successful independent debut releases in Australian music history.
Live Performances and Activism
Lior gained a reputation as one of Australia's best live performers, showcasing his outstanding vocals and diverse musical arrangements. In 2005, he performed at the WOMAD festival in the UK, Singapore, and Korea. He also supported the global campaign 'Make Poverty History', which works to fight poverty worldwide. In February 2006, Lior released a live album titled 'Doorways Of My Mind - Live at the NSC', featuring songs from 'Autumn Flow' and several new compositions, including the beloved track 'This Old Love'.
'Corner of an Endless Road' and Continued Success
In February 2008, Lior released his second studio album, 'Corner of an Endless Road', which debuted at number two on the Australian charts and was nominated for 'Best Independent Release' at the ARIA Music Awards. The musician extensively toured Australia and internationally, performing at the Edinburgh Festival and collaborating with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in early 2009. That year, Lior dedicated his tour 'Shadows and Light' to a unique collaboration with Stephen Mushin and Anna Parry, renowned artists working in the shadow puppetry technique. The 'Shadows and Light' concerts combined Lior's music with the art of shadow puppetry and even took place at the Sydney Opera House.
Later Work and Activism
In 2010, Lior recorded the song 'Hoot's Lullaby' for the children's television show 'Giggle and Hoot', which airs on the ABC channel. Lior is known for his advocacy for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and actively participates in various movements promoting peaceful coexistence between the two peoples.
