Sarah Slean: A Multifaceted Artist

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Sarah Slean, a Canadian singer-songwriter and actress, was born in Pickering, Ontario, Canada, in 1977. Her musical journey began at the age of five, and by nine, she was already composing her own songs, drawing inspiration from classic Hollywood musicals and 1960s music.

Independent Albums and "Night Bugs"

Slean's first independent album, "Blue Parade," was released in 1998. In 2002, she signed with WEA/Atlantic Records and released her major label debut, "Night Bugs." This album showcased Slean's lyrical prowess and emotional depth.

"Day One" and a Shift in Style

Slean's 2004 album, "Day One," marked a departure from her previous work. The focus shifted from piano-led compositions to a more rhythmic and guitar-driven sound. The single "Lucky Me" became a fan favorite.

"Orphan Music (live)" and Collaborations

In 2006, Slean released "Orphan Music (live)," a collection of live performances. That same year, she collaborated with the band Our Lady Peace on the song "Julia." She also made a television appearance as a pianist in the Fox TV drama "Murder in Small Town X."

"The Baroness" and Festival Appearances

December 2007 saw the announcement of Slean's album "The Baroness," which was released in March 2008. She performed at the Canwest Cabaret Festival in Toronto in 2008 and the Juno Awards ceremony in 2009, showcasing songs from her latest album.

Charitable Endeavors and Literary Pursuits

In 2011, Slean contributed the song "New Pair of Eyes" to the compilation album "Songs of Love for Japan," with proceeds going to earthquake relief. She also released her album "Land & Sea" in September 2011.

Acting and Poetry

Beyond music, Slean has dabbled in acting, appearing in the television film "Shakin' All Over!" and the musical "Black Widow." She has also published two collections of poetry.
