Lisa Barbelin: A Shining Star in Archery

Early Life and Career

Lisa Barbelin was born in Le, Moselle, France. She began her archery journey at the Société de Tir de Dieuze, before joining Les Archers Riomois in Auvergne. In 2017, she made her mark at the European Junior Archery Cup, earning bronze in the individual event in Maratona and silver in both the individual and team events in Poreč.

Rise to Prominence

Barbelin's talent shone brightly in 2019, when she became part of the French team that claimed bronze at the Medellin World Cup. She also competed at the World Archery Youth Championships, securing silver in the team event and fourth place in the individual competition. Later that year, she honed her skills at a 10-day training camp in Gwangju, where she trained alongside Olympic champion Ki Bo Bae.

Olympic Dreams Realized

In February 2020, Barbelin triumphed at the French Olympic selection trials. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, she continued training diligently in her parents' garden in Le. In December 2020, she claimed third place at the indoor World Cup, which was held virtually.

European Champion

In 2021, Barbelin reached new heights, capturing gold at the 2021 European Archery Championships. She became the first French archer since Bérengère Schuh in 2008 to win the European title. This victory secured her a spot in the individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, although she qualified by reaching the quarterfinal stage. She held the top ranking before being overtaken by Indian archer Deepika Kumari.

Olympic Debut and International Accolades

At the Tokyo Olympics, Barbelin ranked 13th in the ranking round and successfully reached the quarterfinals. Later that year, she contributed to the French women's team's bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships. She fell short in the quarterfinal stage of both the individual and mixed team events at the championship.

Reigning European Champion

In 2022, Barbelin continued her dominance, winning the gold medal at the 2022 European Indoor Archery Championships in Lasko. She remains a formidable presence in the archery world, showcasing her exceptional skills and unwavering determination.
