Liza Jackson: An Accomplished Leader in Environment and Technology
Early Life and EducationBorn in Philadelphia, Liza Jackson was adopted shortly after her birth. She graduated from St. Mary's Dominican High School in New Orleans in 1979 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Tulane University. Jackson further pursued her education at Princeton University, obtaining a Master of Science degree in chemical engineering.
Career in Government
Jackson's early career spanned both state and federal levels. She served as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection from 2006 to 2008. In the same year, she briefly held the position of Chief of Staff to New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine.
U.S. Environmental Protection Administrator
President Barack Obama appointed Jackson as the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2009. During her tenure, she led the implementation of landmark environmental policies, including regulations on greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency standards.
Apple Vice President
In 2013, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that Jackson would join the company's leadership team. She assumed the role of Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, reporting directly to Cook. Jackson oversees Apple's environmental initiatives and engages in policy discussions related to sustainability and technology.
Other Affiliations and Recognition
Jackson serves on the boards of Princeton University, Tulane University, and the Bill Clinton Foundation. She was awarded the Citation for Leadership and Achievement by the Council for Scientific Society Presidents in 2011.
