The Grasshoppers
Roots and FormationIn the bustling city of Kazan, amidst a vibrant yet amateur music scene, a group named "Dixi" emerged, laying the foundation for what would become the legendary blues-rock band, "The Grasshoppers." With a rotating lineup and a fervent passion for music, the group's journey began.
The Triple Alliance
Under the creative guidance of 19-year-old Vladiimir Listkov, the group's core trio solidified with the addition of Andrei Zakharov (Doctor) on bass guitar and Linar Valishin (Prosecutor) on drums. Their unwavering dedication and distinctive styles catapulted the band to prominence within the local music community.
Rise to Popularity
"Dixi" became a household name, plastered across walls and fences, showcasing the trio's burgeoning popularity. They embarked on countless concerts, amassing a loyal following, particularly among the female population. The band's passionate performances and Listkov's charismatic lead vocals left an indelible mark on the city's music scene.
Levis and a Renaming
Fate intervened when Ravil Kaburov, a representative of Levis, witnessed the band's captivating live performance. Impressed by their raw talent, he offered his support as a producer and proposed a name change to "The Grasshoppers," a nod to Listkov's last name and the spirit of Walt Whitman's poetry.
A Bumpy Road
Despite their promising partnership with Kaburov, the band's first album, "Old Wave," fell short of expectations. Listkov later attributed this disappointment to their lack of preparation before recording. Additionally, tensions arose with Kaburov due to his substance abuse issues, leading to an eventual separation.
Resurrection and Rebirth
Undeterred by setbacks, Listkov assembled a new lineup, bringing back keyboardist Seva Sarandov and introducing drummer Kirill Dolganov (Rabbit) and bass guitarist Artur Aksayev. They poured their hearts into crafting a fresh concert program.
Triumphant Return
"The Grasshoppers" emerged stronger than ever before. They found a permanent performance venue at the "Jolly Roger" tavern, becoming a haven for jazz and blues enthusiasts. With the addition of keyboardist Marat Nikolaev, the band's sound reached new heights.
Crafting a Legacy
In December, their long-awaited debut album, "Moment of Enjoyment," was released, showcasing the culmination of their tireless efforts. The album garnered critical acclaim and cemented their position as one of Russia's most celebrated blues-rock bands.
