Lori Smith, born on November 6, 1982 in Julesburg, USA, is an American athlete specializing in hammer throwing. She never dreamed of a professional sports career. As a child, Lori was quite overweight, which closed many doors for her in various sports. She played football, basketball, and volleyball only for her own enjoyment. One day, her school coach suggested that she try her hand at track and field, specifically in hammer throwing. Lori's weight was perfect for this type of competition, and after several months of intense training, she began achieving excellent results. Her determination and drive for victory were noticed by many leading coaches.
University and Hard Work
After graduating from high school, Lori Smith enrolled at the University of Colorado. She was not particularly popular among the students and often referred to herself as a "laughingstock". However, after several successful performances in university competitions, Lori Smith became one of the best athletes at the institution. During her studies, she had to work as a cashier at a bank since her parents could not fully support her education and training.
Training and Dedication
Currently, Lori Smith is training under the guidance of Stuart Toger, a former English weightlifter. In 1996, Toger coached Lance Deal, a silver Olympic medalist. Lori Smith often watches recordings of her performances, aiming to identify any flaws or weaknesses and correct them as quickly as possible. She also constantly watches the performances of her competitors to understand their techniques and gain more experience. She particularly admires Koji Murofushi, a Japanese athlete, whom she jokingly refers to as her fiancé.
Olympic Debut
Lori Smith has achieved several top positions in the national championship, but she lacks extensive experience in international competitions. In 2008, she made her Olympic debut in Beijing. Despite her limited international experience, Lori can count on an Olympic medal thanks to her excellent results. She will be representing the team of athletes alongside Adam Nelson, Alisa Schmidt, Alfred Kruger, Kim Kreiner, and many others.
