Early Years, Childhood, and FamilyLoreen, a popular Swedish singer of Moroccan-Berber descent, was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Despite being born in the heart of Scandinavia, Loreen has African blood running through her veins. Her parents moved to Sweden from Morocco before she was born. Loreen has often spoken about her family and roots. She belongs to a Berber tribe in Morocco that primarily resides in mountainous regions. In this tribe, music is highly valued as it is believed to be the only way to express emotions. This may be why Loreen first started singing. As a child, she would often visit her relatives in Africa, where she learned to sing and play the drums.
First Steps on the Swedish Stage
Loreen's first appearance on the Swedish music scene was after her family moved to the small Scandinavian town of Västerås. Here, she attended a regular school and also performed in children's plays, often playing lead roles. Loreen spent most of her childhood in the Ensta-Gröta district, known for its low-rise buildings and abundance of forests and parks. This close connection to nature, both African and European, shaped Loreen's unique image as an entertainer. Career
Loreen gained her first serious success when she participated in the Swedish version of "Idol," a reality show similar to "Pop Idol." Although Loreen did not make it to the final round, her compositions were featured in various compilations released after the show, gaining popularity among fans. During this time, she toured Swedish cities with other contestants. However, Loreen later decided to change her creative priorities and worked as a host and producer for a central Swedish television channel. Over the years, she moved from one channel to another and produced three television projects. These shows may not be well-known to readers outside the CIS countries. It was only in 2011 that Loreen returned to the stage. She recorded the song "My Heart Is Refusing Me," which became a single and was presented at the Swedish national project Melodifestivalen. While another artist represented Sweden at Eurovision that year, "My Heart Is Refusing Me" quickly gained airplay on Swedish, Finnish, and other European radio stations. It even earned Loreen the national music award, Gaygalan, just a year later. Interestingly, the jury of Melodifestivalen named Loreen's song the best composition ever presented on the show, although she did not win the competition. However, she finally achieved her goal in 2012. With the song "Euphoria," Loreen won Melodifestivalen and earned herself a ticket to Baku. She received a record-breaking 670,000 votes from the Swedish audience. Her victory in Eurovision was unquestionable, as she received 372 points in the final, surpassing all her competitors. The song, performance, and lyrics of "Euphoria" received various European awards. Shortly after the competition, "Euphoria" topped the national charts in Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, and many other countries. Notably, the song became a hit even in distant Australia. Upon her return to Sweden as a popular and recognizable singer, Loreen immediately started working on her debut album. Five months later, the album titled "Heal" was released in music stores across Europe. Currently, the girl from a Moroccan immigrant family is one of the most popular singers in the modern history of Sweden.
Off Stage: Personal Life
Very little is known about Loreen's personal life off stage. In one interview, she mentioned suffering from unrequited love for a guy but never revealed his name. Besides her music career, Loreen is also actively involved in political activism. She has visited many organizations in Azerbaijan advocating for women's rights and held an official meeting with the wives of political prisoners in Belarus.
