Early Life and Education
Henri Dominique Lombard, a renowned French hornist, composer, and music educator, was born in Paris in 1769. In 1795, he enrolled at the prestigious Paris Conservatory under the tutelage of the esteemed Joseph Kenn. Lombard distinguished himself as an exceptional student, earning the first prize at his graduation examinations. For his accomplishment, he was awarded an experimental instrument created by the Parisian workshop of Lucien Joseph Roux. This instrument remains a prized artifact at the Paris Conservatory Museum.
Professional Career
Beginning in 1806, Lombard's musical career flourished. He served as a horn player in the orchestra of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux before joining the prestigious Paris Opera from 1808 to 1811. In 1811, he succeeded his mentor, Joseph Kenn, as professor of horn at the Paris Conservatory, a post he held until 1833. Among his notable students was Jacques François Gallay. During the reign of King Louis-Philippe, Lombard was appointed as a court musician.
Educational Contributions
