Early Life and Education

Luciano Soprani was born in Reggiolo, Italy in 1946. Growing up on a farm, he initially pursued agricultural studies before realizing his true passion for fashion.

Debut in Fashion

In 1967, Soprani began his career at Max Mara, where he honed his skills in ready-to-wear design for eight years. Seeking new opportunities, he left the company in 1974 to work as a freelance designer for Gucci, PMS, Hetiete, and Nazareno Gabrielli. In 1981, he became a freelance consultant for the fashion house Basile.

Independent Success

Despite his extensive experience in ready-to-wear, Soprani made his debut with his own collection in Milan in 1981. He established his namesake label in 1982 while continuing to collaborate with larger fashion houses.

Cult Fame and Controversy

In 1989, Soprani's designs gained widespread recognition after creating the costumes for the erotic film "Wild Orchid." However, in 1992, he had a falling out with his Japanese business partner, Onward Kashiyama Co., Ltd.

Expansion and Legacy

In 1995, Soprani expanded into the fragrance industry with his debut line, "Solo." He continued to release successful fragrance collections throughout his career. Tragically, Soprani passed away on October 23, 1999, at the age of 53 from throat cancer.

His fashion house continued to operate after his death, led by his former assistant Dilio Ortigoza and new designer Alessandro Turci, ensuring the legacy of Soprani's iconic designs into the new millennium.
