Early Career at AtalantaLuciano Zauri, an Italian footballer renowned for his defensive prowess, hails from the youth academy of Atalanta. He made his debut for the senior team during the 1996/97 season, facing off against Roma in a match that ended 0-4. The following season, Zauri embarked on a loan spell at Chievo, where he played in 24 games.
Bergamo Brilliance
Upon returning to Atalanta, Zauri cemented his place as a cornerstone of the defense, earning plaudits as one of Italy's top defenders. His exceptional performances caught the attention of the Italian national team, and he was subsequently selected for international duty.
Transfer to Lazio
In 2003, Zauri made a move to Lazio for a fee of €2.7 million. Lazio manager Roberto Mancini primarily deployed Zauri in midfield during his first season, where he lifted his first career trophy, the Coppa Italia.
Ups and Downs with Lazio
The subsequent season proved tumultuous for Zauri, who played a role in Lazio's near relegation to Serie B with a handball against Fiorentina. The team managed to secure their top-flight status with a victory in the final round against Brescia. In 2006/07, Zauri became Lazio captain, but his stint was marred by an injury sustained against Napoli in the Coppa Italia.
Departure from Lazio
A dispute with Lazio manager Delio Rossi led to Zauri's transfer in the summer of 2008. He joined Fiorentina on a loan deal for €400,000, with an option to buy for €3 million. The following summer, Zauri was loaned to Sampdoria, where he made 32 appearances. Sampdoria extended Zauri's loan agreement for another year in August 2010.
International Career
Zauri made his debut for the Italian national team on September 5, 2001, against Morocco. He was capped 12 times, making 5 appearances on the field.
