Lucky Idahor
Early Life and CareerLucky Idehor was born in Benin City, Nigeria. He moved to Lagos at a young age and began his football career playing for local Nigerian clubs. He later moved to Congo to continue his playing career.
Move to Europe
In 1995, Idehor made the move to Europe, signing for Swiss club AC Bellinzona. He went on to play for Slovenian side Koper and Cypriot club Enosis Neon Paralimni before joining Italian team Reggina in 1998.
Dynamo Moscow Tenure
Idehor was sent on a two-year loan to Dynamo Moscow shortly after joining Reggina. Despite impressing in training with his physicality, his lack of technical skill and poor goalscoring record limited his impact. He made 62 appearances for Dynamo, scoring 8 goals, including three in their run to the final of the 1998-99 Russian Cup.
Departure from Dynamo and Later Career
After falling out of favor at Dynamo, Idehor left the club in 2000 and joined South Korean side Suwon Samsung Bluewings. He spent two years there, scoring four goals in eight appearances. In 2002, he briefly signed for FC Zurich in Switzerland but never played an official match for the club.
Return to Nigeria and Death
Idehor returned to Nigeria after his time in Switzerland. In April 2004, James Obiora, a former teammate at Lokomotiv Moscow, claimed that Idehor had died from AIDS. However, Patrick Ovie, another ex-Dynamo player, disputed these claims, stating that Idehor was alive and well. Idehor himself denied having the disease.
On June 24, 2013, Idehor passed away at the age of 36 in Mafoluku, Nigeria. The cause of death was a brief illness exacerbated by his weakened immune system due to HIV. He was buried in Agbor, Nigeria.
