Biography of Lucy Hannah
Lucy Hannah, an American centenarian, was born on July 16, 1875, in Alabama. She is considered the oldest African American in history and the oldest representative of the Negro race on Earth. To avoid racist persecution during the Great Migration, she moved to Detroit, where she married John Hannah in 1901. The couple had eight children, two of whom were still alive at the time of Lucy's death.
Lucy Hannah's long life can also be attributed to her genetics, as two of her sisters lived over a hundred years, and her mother passed away at the age of 99. She died on March 21, 1993, in Detroit, having lived for 117 years and 248 days. Her relatives claimed that due to document confusion, Lucy was actually a year older, but no evidence was ever presented to support this claim.
