Early Life and Education
Ludwig Papikovich Garibdzhanyanwas born on August 24, 1922, in Yerevan. From 1930 to 1940, he attended the Maxim Gorky Secondary School. He then pursued his higher education at the Faculty of History of Yerevan State University from 1940 to 1945. In 1951, he completed his postgraduate studies at the same university.
Political Career
Membership in the Communist PartyGaribdzhanyan became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1943. From 1942 to 1944, he served as the Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of Yerevan State University. Between 1944 and 1951, he held various leadership positions within the Armenian Komsomol (Young Communist League), including Secretary of the Yerevan Medical Institute's Komsomol Committee, First Secretary of the Kirov District Komsomol Committee, and First Secretary of the Yerevan City Komsomol Committee.
Leadership in the Armenian Communist Party
In the early 1950s, Garibdzhanyan assumed several important roles within the Armenian Communist Party (KPA). He worked as Secretary of the university's Party Committee, Secretary of the Yerevan City Party Committee, and later as Instructor and Responsible Organizer of the Central Committee of the KPA. From 1954 to 1957, he served as First Secretary of the KPA's Spandaryan District Committee.
Positions in Yerevan
After returning as Secretary of the Yerevan State University's Party Committee from 1957 to 1961, Garibdzhanyan was elected Second Secretary of the Yerevan City Party Committee in 1961. In February 1966, he was appointed First Secretary of the Yerevan City Party Committee, a position he held until May 1975.
Ministerial Role
From 1975 to 1989, Garibdzhanyan served as the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic (ASSR). Concurrently, he worked as a laboratory technician, assistant, senior lecturer, and associate professor in the departments of Marxism, Leninism, and the History of the CPSU at the Yerevan State Medical Institute and the University of Yerevan.
Academic Achievements
In 1960, Garibdzhanyan successfully defended his doctoral dissertation and was awarded the title of Associate Professor. In 1982, he was elected Acting Professor of the Department of History of the CPSU.
Honors and Recognition
Throughout his career, Garibdzhanyan received numerous awards and distinctions. He was awarded four Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, medals, and honorary certificates from the Supreme Soviet of the ASSR and the Central Committee of the All-Union Leninist Communist Youth League (VLKSM).
