Ludwig von Mises (1881–1973) was an Austrian-American economist known for his extreme liberalism in economics, advocating for no government intervention in economic institutions.
Early Life and Education
Mises was born in Lemberg, Austria-Hungary (now Lviv, Ukraine) on September 29, 1881. He graduated from the University of Vienna in 1906.
Academic Career
Mises served as a professor at the University of Vienna and New York University from 1913–1938 and 1945–1969. During World War I, he served as an artillery officer on the eastern front and later in the economic administration of the Ministry of Defense.

After 1938, Mises lived in Switzerland until his emigration to the United States. He died in New York City on October 10, 1973. Mises' ideas continue to influence economic thought, particularly among libertarians and free-market advocates.
