Biography of Ludwig Schitte
Ludwig Schitte was a Danish composer and pianist. He was born in Denmark and received his professional education as a pharmacist. However, at the age of 22, he decided to dedicate himself to music.
Education and Early Career
Schitte studied music in Copenhagen under the guidance of Anton Ree, Niels Gade, and Edmund Neupert. In 1884, he continued his studies in Weimar under the renowned composer Franz Liszt.
Life and Work in Vienna
From 1886 to 1907, Schitte lived and worked in Vienna. He was also a teacher at the Klavier School Gorak. During this period, he composed several notable works, including the operas "Hero" (1898, Copenhagen), "Mameluke" (1903, Vienna), and "The Student from Salamanca" (1909, Vienna). He also composed ballets, operettas, piano concertos, and other piano pieces, as well as ensemble works and songs.
Later Years in Berlin
In the last two years of his life, Schitte resided in Berlin and taught at the Stern Conservatory. Despite his diverse repertoire, Schitte gained particular popularity for his light piano pieces, which were widely used in the repertoire of music schools.
Legacy
In 1890, Schitte published a collection of exercises titled "School of Advanced Piano Mastery" (German: Schule des höheren Klavierspiels) in collaboration with Moritz Rosenthal. This publication further contributed to his recognition as a composer and educator in the field of piano music.
