Ludwik Feinberg: The Notorious Inmate
Early LifeLudwik Feinberg, also known as Leonid Feinberg, Alon Bar, Leon Bar, Lesha Tarzan, Lev Panamskiy, and Mr. Prisoner, was born in Odessa in 1958. At age 13, his family relocated to Israel.
Ambitions and Troubles
Feinberg reportedly aspired to a military career but faced setbacks. He left Israel for the West, spending time in Berlin and later the United States.
Submarine Scheme
In the mid-1990s, Feinberg faced charges in a high-profile case involving an attempt to purchase an old Soviet submarine in Kronstadt. Drug traffickers planned to use it to transport cocaine from Colombia to the US West Coast. Feinberg received a relatively short sentence in exchange for information about his accomplices.
Travels and Expulsions
After being deported to Israel, Feinberg traveled to Canada but was soon expelled for contacts with his former drug-dealing associates. In 2003, he moved to Moscow, leading a reportedly lavish lifestyle. However, he was drawn back to the West, spending time in Brazil, where he reconnected with his former colleagues.
Arrest in Panama
Feinberg's escapades ended in Panama in 2011 when he was arrested during a raid on a nightclub and brothel. He claimed to be an innocent bystander, but authorities suspected drug and human trafficking.
Life in La Joya Prison
Held in La Joya Prison, Feinberg's charges are yet to be formally filed. He maintains his innocence, claiming that arbitrary police powers in Panama allow for arbitrary detention.
Mr. Prisoner: Prison Life and Literary Pursuits
While awaiting trial, Feinberg has taken to the Internet. As Mr. Prisoner and Lev Panamskiy, he offers video tours of the prison, detailing its conditions, routines, and inmates. He has also penned a memoir on his smartphone, attracting interest from publishers. However, he prioritizes his release before seeking publication.
