Early Life and Education
Alexander Maximilian Seitz was born in Rome to Alexander Maximilian Seitz Sr., a German historical painter. He initially trained under Peter Cornelius and Friedrich Overbeck before studying with his father.
Artistic Style
Seitz primarily focused on religious subjects, showcasing an exceptional ability to imitate various schools and styles of the old masters. His versatility allowed him to create works that evoked different artistic traditions.
Major Commissions
In the 1870s, Seitz painted a series of frescoes in the Djakovo Cathedral in Hungary. Notable works included the restoration and decoration of the churches of Santa Maria dell'Anima and Aracoeli in Rome. He also created the grand altarpiece for Freiburg Cathedral and restored paintings in the chapel of Prince Franz Egon von Fürstenberg's castle on Lake Constance.
