Blessed Ludwik Roch Getinger: A Martyr of World War II

Priesthood and Scholarship

Ludwik Roch Getinger was a devout Catholic priest who dedicated his life to serving God and his community. Born in Poland, he completed his theological studies at the Kelce Seminary in 1927 and was ordained a priest the same year. He then pursued further education at the Jagiellonian University.

Teaching and Pastoral Ministry

From 1929 onward, Father Getinger taught at various secondary schools in Czestochowa while working on his doctoral dissertation. He also served as a vicar at the Holy Trinity parish in Bendzin from 1929 to 1934 and as a prefect at local high schools.

Martyrdom under Nazi Persecution

With the outbreak of World War II, Father Getinger's life took a tragic turn. On October 6, 1941, he was arrested by the German occupation forces. Just over three weeks later, on October 30, he was transported to the infamous Dachau concentration camp. Within a month, on November 30, 1941, Father Getinger succumbed to the horrors of the camp. He was identified by the concentration camp number 28288.

Beatification and Legacy

On June 13, 1999, Pope John Paul II beatified Father Ludwik Roch Getinger along with 107 other Polish martyrs who had suffered under Nazi persecution. His memory is revered in Poland, and his feast day is celebrated on June 12.
