Biography of Luigi Cevenini

Luigi Cevenini was an Italian footballer who played as a left central forward and was one of the famous Cevenini brothers. He was considered the most well-known among his brothers and represented Italy in 29 international matches.

Early Career

Cevenini made his Serie A debut on April 28, 1912, playing for Milan against Genoa. He scored a goal in that match, which led to Milan's victory. This was the only match he played in the 1911-1912 season. In the following season, Cevenini transferred to Inter, where he played until 1921. It was during his time at Inter that he won his first Italian championship title.

Later Career

In the 1921-1922 season, Cevenini played for Novese in the Italian Football Federation championship, while his Inter team participated in a different tournament organized by the Italian Football Confederation. Novese won the championship that season, marking their only title in history. Cevenini returned to Inter the following year and played for the club until 1927. He then moved to Juventus in 1927 and played there until 1930, marking the end of his football career.

International Career

Cevenini made his debut for the Italian national team on January 31, 1915, in a match against Switzerland. Italy won the match 3-1, with Cevenini scoring the second goal and his brother Aldo scoring the third. He represented Italy until 1929, playing 29 matches and scoring 11 goals. He captained the team on seven occasions. Cevenini also played two matches for Italy-B, the second national team, scoring three goals against Luxembourg and Ireland, in the team's first two matches in history.

Later Career as a Coach

In 1930, Cevenini took on the role of player-manager for the Serie C club Messina. Under his guidance, Messina was promoted to Serie B the following year. In the 1932-1933 season, he coached and played for Peloro, and in the following season, he joined Novara. In the 1934-1935 season, Cevenini started coaching Comoense while also playing for the team, scoring four goals in 15 matches. He later coached Arezzo in the 1938-1939 season and even took the field in four matches at the age of 44.

Record and Legacy

Cevenini is the second-highest scorer in the history of the Milanese "Derby della Madonnina," having scored 17 goals (all for Inter), surpassed only by Giuseppe Meazza. His brother, Mario Cevenini, who played for Milan, scored 16 goals.
