Early Career and Sporting Lisbon

Luís Boa Morte, born on August 4, 1977, began his football journey with Sporting Lisbon. Despite being a product of their youth academy, he never made an appearance for the first team. However, he spent time on loan at Lorinhaense, an affiliate club.

Arsenal Years

In June 1997, Boa Morte's career took a significant turn when he was acquired by Arsenal for £1.75 million. Under Arsène Wenger's leadership, Arsenal achieved a historic double in the 1997/98 season, winning both the Premier League and FA Cup. Boa Morte contributed with 15 league appearances and four cup appearances that season. Despite his early promise, he struggled to cement his place in the starting lineup and played only 36 games for Arsenal, scoring four goals.

Southampton and Fulham

In August 1999, Boa Morte was sold to Southampton for £500,000. He spent one season with the Saints, scoring twice in 24 appearances under Glenn Hoddle. In July 2000, he joined Fulham on loan in the second-tier Championship.

The 2000/01 season proved to be a watershed moment for Boa Morte. Under manager Jean Tigana, he flourished, scoring 21 goals, including 18 in the league, as Fulham secured promotion to the Premier League. His impressive performance prompted Fulham to purchase him permanently for £1.7 million in June 2001.

Success at Fulham

Boa Morte became a key player for Fulham during his five-and-a-half-season stint. He was a regular starter and even captained the team at times as the club established itself as a Premier League mid-table team.

International Career

Boa Morte made his Portugal debut in 2001 and has since earned 27 caps, scoring once. He represented Portugal at the 2004 Olympics and the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where they finished fourth.

Later Years

In January 2007, Boa Morte made a move to West Ham United for a reported £5 million. He spent the remainder of his career with the Hammers, making over 100 appearances and scoring seven goals. He retired in 2011 and has since transitioned into coaching.
