José de Córdova y Morales

José de Córdova y Morales was a renowned Spanish general and diplomat who played a significant role in the country's military and political landscape.

Early Career and Constitutional Revolution

Córdova began his military career in the Spanish Army. In 1820, while under his command, the troops proclaimed the Constitution of 1812, which aimed to limit the monarchy's power.

Betrayal and Exile

However, Córdova later conspired with King Ferdinand VII and orchestrated a mutiny in the Royal Guard, which ultimately failed. As a result, he was forced to flee to Paris.

Return to Spain and Support for Ferdinand

Upon his return to Spain, Córdova joined the Army of the Faith, which was led by General Quesada. He fought alongside French forces in support of Ferdinand's restoration to absolute power.

Carlist Wars and Support for Isabella

In the First Carlist War, Córdova initially supported the Carlists, who opposed the rule of Queen Isabella II. However, he later shifted his allegiance to Isabella's side and defended her against the Carlist uprising.
