Early Life
Luke Schenn was born on November 2, 1989, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to parents Jeff and Rita Schenn. He has a younger brother, Brayden, who was also drafted into the NHL by the Los Angeles Kings in 2009. Schenn also has two sisters, Madison and Macy. He attended St. Joseph High School, which has produced NHL stars such as Colby and Riley Armstrong and Jarret Stoll.

Hockey Career
Schenn's hockey career began in the 2005-2006 season with the Kelowna Rockets. He made his debut in the Western Hockey League on September 23, 2005, in a game against the Vancouver Giants. Schenn scored his first goal in the league on October 11 in his hometown of Saskatoon against the Saskatoon Blades. He served as an alternate captain for the Kelowna Rockets for two seasons.
During his youth career, Schenn had the opportunity to represent Canada in various international competitions. He was a member of the team that played in the Super Series in 2007, helping Canada remain undefeated against Russia. Schenn also won a gold medal in the World Under-18 Hockey Championship. NHL Career
Schenn's defensive abilities, showcased in international play, caught the attention of NHL scouts. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected him with the 5th overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft. On October 7, Schenn signed a contract with the Maple Leafs. He recorded his first NHL assist in a victory against the New Jersey Devils.
As a rookie in the 2008-2009 season, Schenn participated in the NHL YoungStars Game. He scored his first NHL goal as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Montreal Canadiens. On March 14, 2009, Schenn had a remarkable game against the Calgary Flames, contributing two assists in an 8-6 victory. On June 18, he participated in the NHL All-Star Game for rookies, receiving recognition for his defensive play.
Finally, on February 7, 2010, Schenn recorded three points and scored his first two NHL goals in a 5-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators.
