Biography of Lucia Verissimo
Lucia Verissimo is a renowned Brazilian actress who has captivated audiences with her versatile performances. Born in Leblon, a favored district of the screenwriter Manuel Carlos, Lucia grew up in a bohemian family. Her father, Severino Filho, was a famous musician and leader of the band "Cariokas," which was equivalent to the Brazilian version of "The Beatles." Her childhood was filled with rehearsals and recordings, as her crib was placed next to the piano and her feeding bottle was next to a whiskey decanter. The house was constantly filled with famous musicians, and Lucia fell asleep to the improvisations of bossa nova founder Tom Jobim and woke up to Joao Gilberto playing the guitar and demanding almond pastries.

Though her childhood was not stable, with her family experiencing both financial success and hardships, Lucia decided to pursue a different path from her father. It was her friend Christian Torloni, who played Rafaela Kats in "The Babylon Tower," who introduced her to the world of theater. They both attended the Rio de Janeiro College, the only school at the time that accepted children of artists, communists, and divorced parents. Surprisingly, Lucia's father opposed her theatrical career, believing that a person needed certainty in their future, while the life of an actor was filled with ups and downs. However, they reconciled when Lucia promised her father that she would also pursue business ventures alongside her acting pursuits.

Lucia's television career began in 1979 with the series "Marina." A year later, she landed the lead role in "The Immigrants," a series by Benedicto Ruy Barbosa, which became the foundation for the grand theme of immigrant court cases in Brazil and the series "Earth of Love" and "Earth of Hope." Throughout her career, Lucia has starred in 20 television series and numerous theatrical plays. She even sacrificed her education for the role of "Hope," as she had just enrolled in journalism school at the age of 44 but had to postpone her studies.
In addition to her acting career, Lucia is also a farmer and businesswoman. She owns her own farm in the state of Minas Gerais, where she actively manages the operations. Her farm produces vegetables and breeds horses, and the workers receive a percentage of the farm's earnings, allowing them to take care of everything themselves. Lucia's busy schedule and the stress of her various ventures have taken a toll on her health, leading to multiple hospitalizations and even a near-death experience.
Despite her father's wishes, Lucia's business ventures have also had their share of ups and downs. She has been involved in various businesses, including her own clothing line, a souvenir shop, a bar, and a failed play. Currently, she owns a computer disk production company.
Lucia's personal life has also been tumultuous, with a series of unsuccessful marriages. Her first marriage, which occurred when she was barely of legal age, was to a poet and communist who had no money. Lucia supported him financially, but they divorced when she was 20, and he took everything she had. She later married a tyrannical and despotic entrepreneur who discarded birth control pills and refused to listen to Lucia's arguments against having children. After their divorce, Lucia had other relationships, but none lasted. She has no children and has considered artificial insemination as an option.
Currently, Lucia is taking a break on her farm in Minas Gerais and is unlikely to return to television for a while. She has a habit of resting for a year or two after each major television role. Despite the challenges she has faced, Lucia Verissimo remains a beloved and respected figure in the Brazilian entertainment industry.
