Australian Freestyle Skier Lydia Lassila
Lydia Lassila is an Australian champion and freestyle skier who has competed in multiple Olympic Games. She has a mix of Greek and Italian heritage, with her mother being Italian and her father being Greek-Cypriot.

Education and Career
After finishing school, Lassila first attended the Methodist Ladies' College and then the Westbourne Grammar School. Eventually, she earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

Personal Life
Lydia Lassila is married to Laurie Lassila, a former Finnish athlete and professional freestyle skier who has achieved international success in mogul skiing.
Challenges and Comebacks
In June 2005, Lassila suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, requiring a costly knee reconstruction surgery. However, with the help of a new Achilles tendon, she managed to make a quick comeback to professional skiing, just in time for the Winter Olympics in 2006. Unfortunately, during the second round of qualifying competitions, Lassila landed poorly after a difficult jump and re-injured her anterior cruciate ligament. With the support of her teammates, Jackie Cooper and Alisa Camplin, both of whom had similar injuries in the past, the twenty-four-year-old skier was able to recover and return to competition.
Success in Freestyle Skiing
Sixteen months later, at the World Cup in China, Lydia Lassila won her first silver medal. The following season, she finished in second place overall in the World Cup standings and went on to win her first World Cup title the following year.
Olympic Gold Medal
At the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010, Lassila won the gold medal in aerial skiing, becoming the second Australian to win a gold medal in the sport after snowboarder Torah Bright. This victory added to Australia's medal count in freestyle skiing, following Alisa Camplin's win in 2002. Despite the pressure on Lassila, she performed exceptionally well, taking second place after the first final jump. After the temporary first-place holder, Xu Mengtao, had a poor second jump, Lassila secured the top spot. Her teammates, Jackie Cooper and Elizabeth Gardner, finished in fifth and twelfth place, respectively.
