Nancy Pelosi
Nancy Pelosi is an American politician who has served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from California since 1993. A member of the Democratic Party, Pelosi has held the position of Speaker of the House since 2019.
Early Life and Education
Pelosi was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and a Master of Science degree from Georgetown University.
Academic Career
Before entering politics, Pelosi worked as a college professor. She taught at the College of Marin and Dominican University of California. Her areas of expertise included political science and public policy.
Political Career
Pelosi's political career began in 1987 when she was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. She served in this position for six years until her successful run for the House of Representatives in 1993.
Since her election to Congress, Pelosi has risen through the ranks of the Democratic Party. She served as House Minority Leader from 2003 to 2007 and 2011 to 2019. In 2019, Pelosi became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House.
