Biography of Lyudmyla Blonska
Lyudmyla Blonska is a Ukrainian former track and field athlete who specialized in the heptathlon and pentathlon.
Early Life and Career
Blonska was born in Simferopol, Ukraine, on January 27, 1977. She began her athletics career as a heptathlete and achieved early success by winning the gold medal at the 2005 Summer Universiade.
International Success
In 2006, Blonska made her international breakthrough by winning the gold medal in the pentathlon at the World Indoor Championships. She followed this up by winning the silver medal in the heptathlon at the 2007 World Championships.
Olympic Glory and Disqualification
At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Blonska won the silver medal in the heptathlon. However, in 2008, she was stripped of her medal after testing positive for stanozolol, a banned performance-enhancing drug.
Personal Life
Blonska was married to sports journalist Vadym Korobenko, but the couple later divorced. She has two children, Irina and Oleksandr.
Citizenship and Coaching
After the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, Blonska accepted Russian citizenship. She retired from athletics in 2017 and became a coach at the Taurida Academy of the Crimean Federal University.
Awards and Honors
Blonska received the Medal "For Labor and Victory" in 2005 for her contributions to sports and her international achievements.
