The media reported how Angelina Jolie looked into the eyes of the 7-month-old Cambodian baby and realized that something profound had changed in her life. The boy had no idea that he was in the presence of a Hollywood actress, a beauty, and a love expert. He needed a mother, and Jolie took on that role. When Angelina divorced Billy Bob Thornton, she obtained sole custody rights over Maddox.

Maddox is fluent in English and Khmer languages and is also learning French. He has developed skills in operating a boat and is steadily improving his mastery of karate, approaching every task with responsibility and seriousness. In addition to Maddox and the three biological children of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Shiloh Nouvel, Knox Leon, and Vivienne Marcheline, the Hollywood couple has two adopted children, Pax Thien and Zahara Marley. Maddox, being the oldest brother, adores his younger siblings and takes care of them.

An American magazine, "In Touch," conducted a survey that revealed Maddox to be the most adorable "celebrity child" at the moment. In terms of popularity, he surpassed Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, as well as Madonna's children, Lourdes Ciccone Leon and Rocco Ritchie.
