Early Life and Education

Born in France, de Valmalète showcased her musical talent from a young age. She pursued her formal training at the prestigious Paris Conservatory under the tutelage of renowned pianist Joseph Morpain.

Professional Career

De Valmalète's career took off in the 1920s. She gained recognition as a soloist and as a member of the renowned Paris Trio, alongside violinist Yvonne Astruc and cellist Marguerite Caponsacchi. In 1929, she achieved a milestone by making the first recording of Maurice Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin," which received the composer's acclaim.

Teaching and Legacy

In the mid-1920s, de Valmalète relocated to Marseille, where she lived for over two decades. In 1949, she returned to Paris at the invitation of acclaimed pianist Alfred Cortot. At the Cortot School of Music, she shared her expertise with aspiring young pianists, notably Idil Biret. From 1961 to 1974, de Valmalète graced the faculty of the Grenoble Conservatory as a professor.

Later Years and Recordings

Despite retiring from the concert stage, de Valmalète remained active in music throughout her life. In 2006, a CD featuring her recordings from 1929 to 1992 was released, showcasing the breadth of her repertoire and the enduring legacy of her performances.
