Biography of Madison Hubbell
Madison Hubbell is an American figure skater who has been competing in ice dancing with Zachary Donohue since 2011. They are the winners of the Four Continents Championships in 2014 and the champions of 2018, as well as multiple medalists in national championships. Prior to skating with Donohue, Hubbell competed with her brother Keiffer Hubbell. As of November 1, 2017, the duo is ranked fourth in the International Skating Union (ISU) rankings.
Early Years
During her junior years, Hubbell danced with her brother Keiffer Hubbell. The pair finished in fourth place at the 2009 Junior World Championships. In the spring of 2011, she teamed up with Zachary Donohue.
Competitive Successes
In January 2015, Hubbell and Donohue became bronze medalists for the second time at the national championships. Their first competition of the 2015/2016 season was at the Challenger Series in Salt Lake City, which they won. They then competed at the Trophée Bompard, the French Grand Prix event, but the competition was canceled due to safety concerns following a series of terrorist attacks in Paris. The duo went on to compete at the NHK Trophy, where they placed third and improved their personal best scores in the short dance, free dance, and overall.
Their achievements allowed them to qualify for the Grand Prix Final for the first time, where they finished in sixth place. They won bronze medals again at the national championships a month later. In February, they placed fourth at the Four Continents Championships in Taipei. In early April, they improved their previous results in the free dance and overall at the World Championships in Boston, finishing among the top six couples.
In the new Olympic season, Hubbell and Donohue started strong, winning the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic in Salt Lake City in September. However, they finished second at the Finlandia Trophy in October. They also placed second at the Cup of America in Chicago in mid-October. In mid-November, they won silver medals at the Trophée de France in Paris, securing their spot in the Grand Prix Final in Marseille. They finished second to last in France but improved their previous results in the short dance and overall.
In January 2017, they finished third at the national championships in Kansas. In mid-February, they placed fourth at the Four Continents Championships in Gangneung, South Korea, improving their previous results in the short dance and overall. In late March, they competed at the World Championships in Helsinki, where they placed in the top ten and improved their previous result in the short dance.
In September, the American duo began the Olympic season at the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic in Salt Lake City, where they won the gold medal. A month later, they won the bronze medal at the Canadian Grand Prix event, improving their personal best scores in the overall and free dance. They also won silver at the Japanese Grand Prix event a month later.
