Majid Bouguerra: Algerian Football Legend

Early Life

Majid Bouguerra was born on October 7, 1982, in Longwy, France to Algerian immigrants Abdellouhab and Radia. His father, a house painter and plasterer, was forced to leave his job due to health problems, resulting in a difficult childhood for Bouguerra. The family lived in poverty, relying on occasional earnings.

Football Career

Bouguerra began his professional career with Gueugnon in 2002, where he played for three and a half years. In 2006, he moved to the English club Crewe Alexandra on a loan deal.

After spending the first half of the 2006/07 season with Sheffield Wednesday, Bouguerra joined Charlton Athletic in January 2007. Despite being unable to keep the club in the Premier League, his performances earned him attention from other clubs.

In July 2008, Bouguerra moved to Scottish giants Rangers for a fee of £2.5 million. He quickly became a regular in the starting lineup, helping the team win the Scottish Cup in 2008/09. His outstanding performances earned him the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award in 2010.

After three successful seasons at Rangers, Bouguerra left the club in August 2011 to join Qatari outfit Lekhwiya. He helped the team win the Qatar Stars League title twice during his tenure.

International Career

Bouguerra made his international debut for Algeria in 2004 and represented his country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored three goals for the "Desert Foxes" and captained the team at the 2014 World Cup.

Personal Life

Bouguerra married his girlfriend, Safia, in 2006. They have two daughters, Hila and Inès.

Coaching Career

After retiring from playing, Bouguerra transitioned into coaching. He currently holds the position of assistant coach at Algerian club JS Kabylie.
