Early Life and Family

Maitreyi Ramakrishnanis a Canadian actress best known for her role as Devi Vishwakumar in the Netflix teen comedy series _Never Have I Ever_ (2020). Ramakrishnan was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario, to Tamil parents. Her parents, Rama Selvarajah and Kiruthika Kulendiren, immigrated to Canada as refugees from Sri Lanka during the Sri Lankan Civil War. Ramakrishnan identifies more as a Canadian Tamil than a Sri Lankan. She has a brother named Vishwa.

School Years and Discovery of Acting

During high school, Ramakrishnan began performing in school plays and musicals. Her experience playing Velma Kelly in a school production of _Chicago_ ignited her passion for acting. After graduating from Meadowvale Secondary School in 2019, she intended to study theater at York University but deferred her admission to accept the lead role in _Never Have I Ever_.

_Never Have I Ever_ and Breakthrough Role

In April 2019, Ramakrishnan auditioned for _Never Have I Ever_ after seeing Mindy Kaling's casting notice on social media. She was eventually cast out of 15,000 applicants to play the show's lead role. The series premiered on Netflix on April 27, 2020, and was renewed for a second season on July 1, 2020, which premiered on July 15, 2021. Netflix renewed the show for a third season on August 19, 2021. Ramakrishnan's performance earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Performance in a New Scripted Series.

Beyond _Never Have I Ever_

On June 2, 2021, it was announced that Ramakrishnan would star in the upcoming Netflix film _The Netherfield Girls_.
