Childhood and Early Career

Malhas Amoyan, an Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler of Yezidi origin, was born on January 22, 1999, in Yerevan. He embarked on his wrestling journey at the age of six in the "Dynamo" sports organization, guided by Hamlet Ovannisyan and Azat Amoyan.

Rise to Prominence

In 2017, Amoyan achieved his first international podium finish, securing the bronze medal at the European Junior Championships. He followed it up with the silver medal at the World Junior Championships that same year. Over the next few years, he continued to excel, winning bronze and gold medals at the European Junior Championships and claiming the title of World Junior Champion in 2018.

Senior Success

Amoyan made his senior debut in 2019, winning the Poland Open. Despite a quarterfinal exit at the World Championships, he quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with. In 2020, he captured the silver medal at the Individual World Cup, losing only to the reigning European and World Champion.

At the 2021 European Championships, Amoyan fought his way to the final, ultimately finishing as the runner-up. He rebounded by winning the gold medal at the European Under-23 Championships. The highlight of his 2021 season came at the World Championships, where he defeated top-ranked opponents to claim the title of World Champion.

European and Olympic Glory

In 2022, Amoyan moved up to the 77 kg weight class and demonstrated his dominance once again. He clinched the gold medal at the European Championships in impressive fashion, overcoming a deficit to triumph in the final. At the World Championships later that year, he secured the bronze medal.

Amoyan's career reached its peak at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Competing in the 77 kg category, he outwrestled Aram Vardanian of Uzbekistan in the bronze medal match, adding an Olympic medal to his remarkable collection of achievements.

Reflections on Success

Reflecting on his journey, Amoyan emphasized the importance of hard work, determination, and perseverance. He believes that sport teaches invaluable life lessons and instills the values of excellence both on and off the mat. Amoyan remains driven by his aspirations for Olympic success, recognizing the significance of every medal as a testament to years of dedication.
