Biography of Manana Aslamazyan

Early Life and Education

Manana Aslamazyan was born on January 10, 1952, in Yerevan, Armenian SSR. In 1973, she graduated from the Philological Faculty of Yerevan State University.

Career in Moscow

From 1974, Aslamazyan lived in Moscow, where she worked as an educator for audiences at the Moscow Puppet Theater and later as an administrator at the theater on Malaya Bronnaya Street.

General Director of "Internews"

In 1993, Aslamazyan became the General Director of the Russian branch of the American foundation "Internews Network." She held this position until 1998 when she joined the board of "Internews International" and became the president of "Internews Europe."

Contributions in Media Development

Aslamazyan has made significant contributions to the development of the media industry. She was awarded the special prize of the Russian Television Academy in 2001 for her personal contribution to the development of Russian television. She was also a laureate of the "Media Manager of Russia" award in 2002, recognized for her outstanding achievements in the media business.

Controversy and Emigration

In 2007, Aslamazyan faced legal troubles related to the smuggling of currency from Europe to finance the activities of an American non-governmental organization she led. She went into hiding and left Russia, settling in France.

However, several prominent Russian television journalists came to her defense, publishing an open letter supporting Aslamazyan. In 2010, the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation reclassified the criminal case to an administrative one due to changes in the article on smuggling in the Russian Criminal Code.

Current Life

Currently, Manana Aslamazyan lives and works in Armenia.
