Ramón Fonst: A Cuban Fencing Legend

Ramón Fonst was a Cuban fencer who made history at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis.

Olympic Glory

In St. Louis, Fonst competed in two fencing events. He emerged victorious in both the team foil competition and the individual sabre event. Fonst's exceptional skills earned him the distinction of being the first and, to date, only Cuban to win two gold medals at the same Olympic Games.

History in the Making

Fonst's accomplishments were not only remarkable for Cuba but also for the sport of fencing itself. His victory in the individual sabre event marked the first time a non-European fencer had claimed the Olympic title in that discipline.
