Masood Arabov: A Renowned Actor and Director from Tajikistan
Early Life and EducationMasood Arabov, a prominent figure in Tajik and Soviet cinema, was born in Stalinabad (now Dushanbe), Tajikistan. His mother was the celebrated actress and singer Tufa Fazilova, who held the title of People's Artist of the USSR. Arabov's passion for the arts led him to pursue an acting degree from the A.N. Ostrovsky Tashkent Theatrical and Artistic Institute in 1960. Subsequently, he graduated from the directing faculty of the prestigious VGIK (Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography) in 1965, where he studied under renowned filmmakers Sergei Gerasimov and Tamara Makarova.
Acting Career
Arabov's remarkable talent as an actor earned him countless roles in over 20 films. His breakthrough role came in 1959's "The Fate of the Poet," a film depicting the life of the eminent Tajik-Persian poet Abuabdullo Rudaki. For his portrayal of Rudaki, Arabov received accolades at the Cairo Film Festival and the All-Union Film Festival in Minsk. His last screen appearance was in 2014, when he starred in the film "Muollim" (Teacher), directed by Nosir Saidov. This performance brought him the award for Best Actor at the 33rd Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran in 2015.
Directing Endeavors
In addition to his acting prowess, Arabov also ventured into directing, helming six films. His directorial debut, "Nisso" (1965), was met with critical acclaim, earning him a diploma at the Central Asian and Kazakhstan Film Festival. Among his other notable films as a director are "In the Mountains My Heart" (1968), "The Mystery of the Ancestors" (1972), "The Siege" (1977), "Double Shooting" (1979), and "Look More Cheerful" (1982).

Throughout his illustrious career, Arabov received numerous honors and awards:
