Early Career
Nicolas Graniani began his hockey career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), playing for the PEI Rocket. He was selected 87th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Professional Debut and Record-Breaking Season
While initially recruited as a defenseman, Graniani often played left wing during his first professional season. He made his NHL debut with the Sabres on February 23, 2008. In April 2009, Graniani set a new Portland Pirates regular-season record for points by a defenseman with 51. He also established a club record for assists by a defenseman with 42. In 2011, he surpassed both his previous records, earning 48 assists and 60 points in a single season as a defender.
NHL Breakthrough and Vancouver Trade
Graniani became a regular on Buffalo's roster in March 2011. He scored his first NHL goal on April 3, 2011, against the Carolina Hurricanes. On February 28, 2012, he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks as part of a major deal between the Sabres and Canucks.
Continued NHL Career
Graniani signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in July 2012. Since then, he has continued to play in the NHL, showcasing his exceptional defensive skills and versatility on the ice.
