A French rowing champion, he won a bronze medal at the 1936 Olympic Games. During his eight-year run as champion from 1932 to 1936, he represented the CA Nantes team.
Olympic Success
At the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics, he earned a bronze medal in the coxed fours competition with a time of 7:33.3. The French squad placed behind teams from Germany and Switzerland. According to the athlete's recollections, the conditions in Germany were deplorable, with competitors forced to dwell in a barn and subsist on a meager diet of cabbage three times each day. He attributed the German team's victory to their professional status, which gave them an advantage over the French and Swiss competitors.
