Early Life and Career

Jacques Doriot was a prominent French politician born in 1898. He initially joined the Socialist Party in 1914 and served in the First World War, earning the Legion of Honor. After the war, he became a philosophy professor and earned a doctorate.

Political Activism and Socialism

In 1933, Doriot founded his own socialist party. He was elected to the National Assembly in 1936 and served as Minister of Aviation. However, his views evolved, leading him to become an anti-communist and advocate for neo-socialism.

Collaborator with Nazi Germany

With the outbreak of World War II, Doriot initially supported the French anti-fascist movement. However, by the late 1930s, he became an advocate for rapprochement with Nazi Germany. In 1940, he was a staunch supporter of the Vichy government and a vocal collaborator with the Nazis.

Leader of the Pro-Fascist Party

In 1941, Doriot founded the pro-fascist National Popular Rally (RNP). He became increasingly radicalized, aligning himself with far-right ideologies and anti-Semitism. In 1944, he was appointed Minister of Labor in the Vichy government.

Exile and Death

After the liberation of France, Doriot fled to Italy, where he concealed his identity and worked as a teacher. He died in 1945 under mysterious circumstances, believed to be either a suicide or an assassination.
