IntroductionMarcel Granollers i Pujol, born on April 12, 1986, in Barcelona, Spain, is a Spanish professional tennis player. He turned professional in 2003 and reached his career-high ranking of 33rd in the world in singles on August 1, 2011. In doubles, Granollers reached a career-high ranking of 5th.
Early Career
In 2006, Granollers made his debut in the first round of the Wimbledon tournament but lost to Romanian player Andrei Pavel. He had a successful qualification run, defeating Stéphane Robert, Konstantinos Economidis, and Marco Chiudinelli. In the 2007 season, Granollers won Challenger tournaments in Naples and Rome in doubles with Flavio Cipolla, as well as in Maspalomas with Marc López.
Professional Achievements
Granollers reached the second round of the French Open in 2007 in doubles with Marc López but lost to Fabrice Santoro and Nenad Zimonjić in a three-set match. In 2008, he qualified for the Australian Open Singles Draw but lost in the first round to Evgeny Korolev. He reached the quarterfinals of the ATP Abierto Mexicano Telcel tournament in Acapulco, Mexico, where he lost to José Acasuso.
On April 20, 2008, Granollers won his first ATP tournament in singles at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships, defeating James Blake in the final.
