Education and Career

Valeriy Terziyan was born on December 27, 1958, in Kharkiv, Ukraine. He graduated from the Kharkiv Institute of Radio Electronics (now Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics) with a degree in Applied Mathematics in 1981. In 1985, he received his PhD in Technical Cybernetics, followed by a Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence in 1993. He was awarded the title of Professor in Software Development in 1996.

Since 1994, Terziyan has held the position of Professor at Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (KNURE). From 1997 onwards, he served as Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence at KNURE. He also worked at various departments of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, including MIT, CS&IS, TITU, and Agora Center from 1996 to 2006.

International Academic Roles

In 2001, Terziyan was appointed Associate Professor in Mathematical Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä. In October 2006, he was elected Professor in Distributed Systems. Since 2008, he has held a permanent position as a Full Professor. Additionally, he is a guest lecturer at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Netherlands) and ITIN (France).

Research and Teaching Interests

Terziyan's research and teaching focus on developing distributed intelligent and secure web applications, systems, and services. These services cater to industry needs, can automatically discover, create, and integrate diverse components, and manage variegated data sources. He employs cutting-edge technologies such as Knowledge, Agent, Machine-Learning, Mobile, Context-Aware, and Semantic Web.

As head of the Industrial Ontologies Group, he has led projects funded by Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation). Terziyan boasts extensive international project experience and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the "Eastern-European Journal of Enterprise Technologies."
